Handicaps for Week 3

Make sure you check the SUMMARY OF POINTS, HANDICAPS AND SCORES sheet for your Week 3 handicap.

Handicaps for those who have played two rounds will be calculated as follows:

(Initial Handicap + 36 + Week 1 Score + Week 2 Score) / 3

After three full weeks, we will have established new handicaps based on this year's scores only.

New player numbers and handicaps for Week 2

Please use your NEW player numbers on the team scorecards this week.

The player number has changed, because the team numbers have changed based on last year's finish.

For example, f you were player 53 last year and your team number changed to 3, then your new player number will be 33. There is an exception to this if you changed teams or are playing for a new team.

I have included the team results in this post and player numbers with Week 1 scores and new handicaps for Week 2.

Handicaps for Week 2

Handicaps - for those with an established handicap - for Week 2 will be calculated using the following formula:

[(Week 1 Score - 36) + 2 X (Initial Handicap)] / 3

Note that all handicaps are rounded down to the nearest whole number. The maximum handicap is 18 and the maximum score used in the calculation is 60.

Week 1 Results

Congratulations everyone! The only person to make a mistake on handicap was... me!

Sorry, Vince, I gave you the wrong handicap. Vince's handicap from last year was 15, not 11. I re-scored his match against Bob Riddell, resulting in an extra 1.5 points for Vince.

Initial Handicaps

I have used the last 5 rounds of 2006, not including the Championship/Scramble night, to calculate your initial handicaps for 2007. Remember, your handicap is the average your last 5 rounds, rounded down. You must have recorded at least 3 rounds in 2006 in order to have an established handicap.

Examples
John Wells, HCP: 8, Rounds: 45, 45, 47, 45, 41.
Billy Bob, HCP: --. Scores 51 on first night of league, so uses a handicap of 15 for that night.

New or returning league members who do not have an established league handicap will have their handicap determined every week by subtracting their score on that night by 36.

A sheet sorted by new team numbers will be posted with your 2007 Initial Handicap. Use this handicap for the first night.

Handicaps for the second and third league nights will be determined using an average of your initial handicap and your 2007 scores. Handicaps for the forth and fifth nights will be based on the average of your 2007 scores only. After five rounds have been recorded your handicap will be based on your most recent 5 rounds in 2007.

Scoring 101

Learn to score!

Team Captains are responsible for ensuring all individual and scores and points are recorded correctly on the Team Scorecards following the competition. Scores and points must be corrected before the next Thursday. I will not correct scores, and points after that except when they negatively affect other teams (lowers handicap, for example).

Here is a scoring tutorial.

Constitution Amendments

I am proposing a [small] amendment to the constitution that will [hopefully] simplify play.

The amendment would make all play in the league stroke play, so that only stroke play rules and penalties are enforced.

Scoring would remain the same [easy] system it has always been.
Proposed changes are underlined.

May 10th Schedule

I have completed the 2007 schedule (revised May 7th). I have rearranged teams so that no team starts more than 4 times on a hole and every team starts at least once on every hole. This is the best I could do. Remember, there are 126 matches to schedule, so it is very difficult to make even small changes for one team without affecting every other team.

At present we have only thirteen teams, so team #14 is Island Springs. Spares can play for Island Springs or, if there are no spares available, players must play against the course. This sucks, but hopefully we can get another team.

There are two halves, each with 9 matches. The first half ends July 5th. We will have a dinner that night and declare the first half winner.

I have set up the schedule so that every team plays against each other once (13 games) and then play 6 more games against the same five teams they played at the beginning of the schedule. So, Weeks 1 and 18 should have the same match-ups in terms of teams.

Here are the matches for this week:

HOLES TEAMS
1 6 vs 11
2 1 vs 2
4
5 vs 12

4 vs 13
